Save JFK Promenade

Don't Sign the "Uses of the Great Highway and JFK Drive" Petition!

The DeYoung’s trustees are trying to take away safe, car-free, recreational space in Golden Gate Park that 70% of voters support. Don’t let them!

Their sneaky, deceptive petition would turn the beautiful, family-friendly recreational space recently created on the JFK Promenade, back into a busy highway that was on the SF government's list of “high-injury corridors,” while doing nothing to improve access.

If someone asks you to sign, say no!

What is the JFK Promenade?

In 2020, San Francisco made 2.5 miles of JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park car-free so that people could spread out and enjoy the park more safely. It was overwhelmingly popular and for many of us, especially with families, it was a bright spot in a very dark time in the pandemic. Learn more about what JFK Promenade means to people >>

Most streets in Golden Gate Park are still open to cars and always have been, with more than 5,000 parking spaces in and around the park.

The park is also served by many Muni routes including the N-Judah train and the 44, 5, 7, 28, 29 buses and more. To make sure everyone can access the park, the City has added a brand new accessible parking lot, and greatly improved the free Golden Gate Park shuttle.

In 2022, along with these access improvements and with strong community support, the SF Board of Supervisors approved Mayor London Breed's legislation to make the JFK Promenade permanent.

This has been popular with almost everyone — but not the rich socialites who run the DeYoung Museum. They blame the JFK Promenade for declining attendance, even though there is still an 800-space parking garage, hundreds of free parking spaces nearby, and you can get dropped off free literally at their door. Their latest attempt is a sneaky petition that would undo the approval of the JFK Promenade.
